Itchy Fish Film presents, a Steve Kelly film…
The story of David Roberts, a fifteen year old loner and his love for the worst football team in Britain. Set in the 60/70’s; the film captures the lengths a fan will go to, to save his team. The friendships, the pain, dedication and passion that come into play when you are at the end of the line.
In an age where life has become surreal and disconnected, The Bromley Boys speaks to the heart. Football is undoubtedly the most popular spectator sport in Britain, and possibly the world, but as the stakes increase, there seems to be more and more of a disconnect and fans have returned to their roots in non-league football, away from the hype , pressure and influence of big money.
This is more than a comical but timeless anecdote of a lonely, teenage boy with an over-active imagination. This is a story about the true football fans, their dedication, passion and support for their club. It transports us back to a time where football was real, where money, star status and cheating had no place. This is about proper football and how it should be played fairly.
Bromley based producer, TJ Herbert read the book “The Bromley Boys”, and was so taken with it, that he called the author in Connecticut to ask that it be turned into a film. Wanting to keep the production as local as possible, the team embarked on a three week open audition period where the youth of Bromley were invited to audition for parts in the film. The standard was extremely high and part of the casting process will be featured as cross-over on a new E4 structured reality show called “Stage School”. The final selection of Bromley teens feature in the film but the main character of David Roberts is played by Brenock O’Connor (Olly in the “Game of Thrones”).
A production team with a genuine wealth of experience, a strong cast, and excellent script make for a winning combination. The intentionally chosen cinematic style transports us into the past with beguiling charm. The directors have recreated and captured the nostalgia of a bygone era with perception and accuracy.
“The Bromley Boys” is a really great script. It is hilarious, moving and well written. The dialogue is sharp, with real laugh out loud moments. I would associate this kind of project with movies like “Bend it like Backham”. – Victoire Velarde – Script Analyst
This is a film with a future!
